Great win for first XI in National Cup

The First XI and a small number of supporters were amply rewarded for taking on a not too stressful three hour journey up to Sion Mills for our club's first ever National Cup match. With most of the matches around Dublin being affected by the poor weather, the North West was bright, with good patches of sunshine between the clouds, and only the ocasional shower.
With the history of Ireland's victory over the West Indies at Sion Mills in 1969, and Sion Mills' own illustrious history, there may have been just a little trepidation in the team, but after a carefully marshalled warm-up session with Moffo, the team looked ready to take on anyone.
Losing the toss and being asked to field first, the team soon got warmed up and quickly brought to a halt what had been a fairly quick start by Sion Mills, eventually dismissing them for 92 in just over 27 overs.
With the wicket still damp and providing some interest for the bowlers, Drano and Greg started watchfully but soon began to get their eyes in. When Drano was dismissed LBW, Danny came in and quickly got up a head of steam, rapidly accumlating runs and eventually hitting the winning runs (a six) to deliver a comfortable nine wicket victory in just over 17 overs.
